I wrote “My Head is Full of You” just before returning to the road in 2021. I was feeling joyful after watching a live show by a peer in my genre and this idea for a song began to burgeon where every moment lived was connected to the thought of the person loved by the narrator. The song was a joy to write and is always a joy to sing.

Before the train makes the dawning break

When my bed's been made and the dogs been out
When the oatmeal's sugared but the milk is sour'd
When my clothes are pressed and the coffee's made

When my car is cranked and warming up
And I've checked my latitudes
I've purse my lips in the rearview mirror

When the drive time gives me time to pray

When the oil stains look like highway snakes
When the heat waves shake on the lid
When I can't make out what the road signs say

It's not the most convenient place to stop and have a thought
I'm distracted driving in the rumble lane
And I hope that I don't get caught!
When I make it home at half past eight
My head's still full of you

When my gas tank arrow points to empty
And my rent is coming due
When the minute hand sets it's heel against my plan

When I'm tangled in my tomorrows
With so many things to do
I close my eyes on yesterday

When tomorrow's yet to have mistakes

When my eyes are full and the levy breaks
When my tears pour forth like a spout
When I'm heavy-hearted and I'm all give out
